.... it's Venus.
When Venus nears inferior conjunction (closest pass to Earth) its apparent diameter becomes larger and it becomes crescent shaped, because the sunny side of the planet is facing away from us. Unfortunately, because it becomes lower in altitude, it also becomes much harder to image the crescent, due to the much larger distance its light takes passing through Earth's turbulent atmosphere.
I took this image through the telescope yesterday evening, as Venus was just fourteen days away from conjunction (and a rare transit) - but I actually took over a hundred shots and all but about three were too distorted to keep. Even the best are a bit fuzzy.
