Shallow Thinking
It revealed the extraordinary shallow thinking that goes on in the minds of some religious folks:
"If u found a clock & examined the mechanism in it, u would think that this intricate mechanism was not the outcome of mere chance, that it had been designed. Look @ the universe; is it possible that such an intricate mechanism, from the planets to the cells in ur fingernails could all have happened by chance? Surely, this enormously complex mechanism has been designed, and the being that designed it must be God."
The thinking process for this baloney appears to be:
Evidence:
1. an 'intricate' clock mechanism is designed; and
2. the Universe is 'intricate',
Therefore:
1. the Universe was designed; and
2. god was the designer.
Surely this is the silliest reason of all for believing in god. It ignores the facts. There is now very strong evidence that the Universe came into being about 13.7 billion years ago in a so-called Big Bang and that stars and galaxies formed naturally from the chaotic hydrogen and helium that formed in the Big Bang, followed later by supernovae star explosions that led to the formation of planets. There is indisputable evidence that Earth was formed from galactic debris 4.5 billion years ago, with primitive life evolving some time after that, followed later by the evolution of humans from other species.
So, in summary, the truth is more like this:
Evidence:
1. undeniable evidence of the Big Bang; and
2. undeniable evidence of cosmic evolution; and
3. undeniable evidence of the formation of the planets out of supernova debris; and
4. undeniable evidence of the formation and evolution of life on Earth; and
5. undeniable evidence of the evolution of homo sapiens.
6. no evidence that a supernatural force exists or guides evolution.
Therefore:
1. the history of the Universe since the Big Bang is attributed to natural causes; and
2. an invisible god who does nothing cannot be distinguished from no god at all.
It's not too hard to work out if you take your blinkers off - but the denial of proven physical evidence is a very serious blunder in the thinking process. It is repeating the mistake of the Catholic Church hundreds of years ago, when it denied and suppressed the hard evidence for a now accepted heliocentric Solar System.
Describing an evolving Universe as 'designed' is just an attempt to shore up a delusional belief in the unbelievable.
