The "Book" was originally based on "chinese whispers" which spread during the first century CE. People don't comprehend that the content has lost its meaning after being written and rewritten, translated and retranslated, umpteen times - and embellished to suit the objectives of powerful men like King Henry VIII.
Google tells us that there are 130 million books in the world, so there are plenty of other books available, with less untruths, cruelty and intolerance; and with more reliable evidence and historical truth on which people could base their personal ethical standards, their lifestyle or their world view. So, blind reliance on a single contradictory book is just astonishing.
People won't ask critical questions about the violence, obvious contradictions, tall tales and magical impossibilities in the book. Critical thinking is not permitted in religious organisations. Where else is a person allowed to lecture a group of people without taking questions?
My instinct tells me that if just one error could be found in the "Book", then the infallibility of the rest of its contents is immediately called into question.
