During this Covid-19 public health crisis my Bride and I have remained at home, except for medical visits.
I went for a routine CT scan and actually spoke face to face with another human being.
Radiologist enquired:
"What are you doing for the rest of today?"
Me:
"Just a normal day staying safe at home with my wife."
Radiologist:
"Oh that's nice. I suppose you both pass the time playing board games?"
Me (diplomatically through gritted teeth behind a covid face-mask):
"Just an ordinary day for two pensioners passing the time."
Me (thinking):
"Just an ordinary day for two pensioners - maintaining three of the websites I run; assisting with rewriting my Society's constitution; researching my astronomical observing schedule for December; sorting out the integration of plate-solving control software for my computer controlled telescope mount; improving my digital image processing skills; and checking various news feeds for interesting science news -
- while my wife is busy designing quilts using state of the art software on her pc; indulging in some of her other digital and handicraft hobbies; learning new embroidery software; and honing her internet shopping skills -
- while we both take turns at keeping fit on the treadmill."
Do people really think pensioners only play ludo and jig-saw puzzles on the kitchen table all day, before heading off to play bingo and pull a few pokies?
