Freedom of religion means the right of individuals to choose their preferred god to worship, whilst still abiding by the laws of the country.
It does not mean - as many Christians think - the right to choose their preferred god to worship, whilst being granted exemptions from the anti-discrimination laws of the country which apply to everyone else.
They will demand to allow religious people in service industries the "right" to refuse service to LBGTI people
"adulterers, the unchaste, men or women in de facto relationships, single mothers who have not repented of their sin, plus gay men and women in relationships"
Trans-sexuals have also moved into the firing line but divorcees barely get a mention - not surprising because of the dubious beginnings of his Church under Henry VIII. No mention of sacking Atheists, either - yet.
"The right to sack any LGBTI person in Anglican employment is necessary to protect the “intrinsic ethos” of church schools, hospitals and charities," says Mr Stead.
They actually believe that their desire to discriminate against people they don't like is ethical!!!!
However, one Anglican is more in tune than Mr Stead:
Mr Andrew Sempell (an Anglican rector) said a few weeks ago: "We haven't let go of Christendom all that much. We still think that we have a right to tell people what to do. This is one of the reasons we're on the nose."
I can't wait to see if LGBTI folks are granted the "right" to discriminate against heterosexuals or perhaps the Anglican church.
Will people like me be allowed to discriminate against the Anglican and Catholic Churches because it is our belief that they they are paedophile rings run by uncompromising thugs?
If faith can open any door, will the right to discriminate against people whose skin colour is not white European be returned to fascists and fellow right wing travellers?
Poor old Religion. All they want is unearned respect; the unfettered right to be exempt from the law; and to tell us all what to do. Who do they think they are - Trade Unions?
