A new survey of religion in Australia, carried out by National Church Life Survey, part of the Australian Catholic University, indicated that fifty-nine per cent of Australians say "they believe in God or a higher power is the lowest its been in the last few decades".
39% identified as either agnostic or atheist (19 per cent agnostic, 20 per cent atheistic). Fifty-nine per cent, of Australians "say they believe in God or a higher power".
Let's see how that compares with the Australian Census figures, due out over the next few months and beginning tomorrow. They are right that religion is declining but I suspect they have over-estimated their own support a little bit.
