Recommended telescope setup checks for the Meade LX-90 telescope to ensure a pleasant evening.
These simple checks are best carried out before sunset, each time the telescope is used:
- Try to level the mount as accurately as possible, even in Alt-Az mode.
- Align the finder-scope(s) with the telescope.
- If necessary, align the Smart-finder as far as possible. My particular set is close enough but I cannot get it as accurate as I would desire.
- Train the drives: Setup > Telescope > Train Drives > (1) Az/RA; and(2) Alt/Dec. A simple procedure to make sure the telescope accurately slews back to its starting position.
- Ensure all power and dew management cables are set up with adequate slack and are kept well clear of the fork.
- Aim the ota roughly northwards before hitting the “automatic alignment” option and check that power and heating cables are not draped around the tripod .
