A few months ago I purchased a Tamron SP 150 mm-600 mm f/5-f/6.3 zoom lens for my Canon 60D camera.
I wanted it more for bird watching and general photography than for astronomy but nevertheless I feel compelled to see how it performs shooting the night sky and I wasn't too impressed with my first effort last year, which I did not even post.
However, I tried it out again last night and achieved a better result:
Canon 60D, 600mm, 0.1 sec, f/20, ISO 100
No telescope. Just a single image, rotated and cropped in Photoshop.
This lens has limited capabilities for astro-photography but will be ok for Moon shots at the very least. Unfortunately there will be no Lunar eclipse visible here this year to try it out on.
