The glory of the 'heavens' above us are real, their starry splendour is visible to those who look up; but the glory of 'Heaven' is a sad delusion of human minds. This is the personal blog site of an atheist astronomer.
Wise words
"My respect is for more than 100,000 Australians who really did die for us."
The ALP's ultra-narcissistic leadership pretender starts singing, loses control, destroys his colleagues and finally ends up blowing himself up. What a Muppet!
Some people are reported to regard Rudd as the popular choice for Prime Minister, conveniently forgetting his disastrous three years in the top job.
Others object to the way Gillard ruthlessly replaced him just before the 2010 election. Yet Rudd is a narcissistic destroyer who himself knifed a popular Labour leader, Kim Beazley to become Prime Minister - but let's not worry about that.
Yesterday's Labour leadership ballot was a farce.
The hard facts are that Rudd was prepared to destabilise the ALP for the sake of his own personal leadership aspirations. He encouraged his supporters to go out on a limb for him. Between them they lied about the numbers, in the hope of pulling in enough additional support to win by a narrow margin.
Rudd encouraged Crean to put his personal career on the line by calling for a ballot, which he did.
Rudd then wimped out, five minutes before the vote, dumping Crean and all the rest of his own supporters who had promoted him as a candidate, leaving them in the lurch and making them look stupid and naive. He pulled out of the ballot which he and his supporters demanded and then told the biggest lie to the public that the world has ever seen: that he would not stand because he was going to "honour his promise" that he would not challenge Gillard again. The world knows he was only several votes away from dis-honouring his promise. What hypocrisy.
Rudd's credibility is now at absolute zero. It can't get any lower and even his closest supporters will never trust him again. Because of his ambitions and duplicity, Crean, Bowen and several others have lost senior government positions. He is now impotent and needs to get out of politics. One can only hope that his seat of Griffith will fall to the Liberal Party at the election.
As for Gillard, she simply comes out of this as a stronger leader of a very much weaker party.
Rudd has single-handedly turned Labour's upcoming election defeat from a simple landslide into a massive avalanche. The winners will The Greens and the Liberal Party and after the election there will be no credible Opposition.
