The glory of the 'heavens' above us are real, their starry splendour is visible to those who look up; but the glory of 'Heaven' is a sad delusion of human minds. This is the personal blog site of an atheist astronomer.
Wise words
"I see no credible evidence for the existence of any god."
I have been fuming about this disastrous event for the last four weeks and have only just calmed down enough to post this image:
For my information? Have you noticed the game has another sixty-six minutes to go?
I used Foxtel IQ (or should I call it Foxtel IQ Lacking) to record this BIG MATCH overnight. Early the next morning, ever hopeful of Spurs scoring a rare win at Old Trafford, I settled down in the lounge chair with some trepidation to watch the game - but with only a quarter of the match gone, it froze and no matter what I did, that was the end of the recording.
I couldn't believe it, how could the wretched machine fail at the most crucial time? Foxtel IQ is supposed to be intelligent. You can record more than one programme simultaneously and you don't have to enter the start and finish times, you just select the programme and it knows when to start and end.
It stopped maybe 30 minutes into a 120 minute scheduled programme, which was broadcast live and was running on time. When I rang Foxtel, they led me through all the Foxtel settings and we discovered that they had prematurely downloaded a firmware version in the box which was one version ahead of what was required. Work that one out. They "updated" to the previous version and told me that was it, fixed.
"Great! Can I watch the rest of the match now?" I asked. "Sorry, can't help you with that" he said. I had to wait another nine hours (without looking up the score) to view edited highlights of the game. Thanks Foxtel, I'm still very angry with you.
(Footnote: Yes, Tottenham did win! - I always knew they would)!
