Hip Replacement: Blog 4. Surgeon breaks mallet on difficult patient.
I've been home for three days, after nine days in hospital. I'm now walking on crutches and I have a titanium left hip, which I hope will last me for the rest of my life. I will be leaving the right leg for about a year if I can but I'll leave the third leg for later.....
I just want to get walking again and get out under the stars for a while....
I can't speak highly enough about Dr Aresh Nabavi - the orthopaedic surgeon who carried out the operation through a tiny four inch anterior incision - and the entire staff of Campbelltown Private Hospital, NSW.
I was a bit non-plussed when informed I would be conscious (but sedated) during the procedure, following a spinal block injection but I readily agreed. I clearly recall hearing the surgeon hammering away on my leg as if he was doing a spot of wrought iron metalwork in his garden shed. He even told me afterwards that he broke his mallet on me!
