Popular does not necessarily mean best.
I've posted hundreds of images to Google Earth via Panoramio since December 2010 and currently have over 38,000 hits. Some photos are there mainly for Google Earth users to see what the location is like, without pretending much photographic merit. Some are decent images in their own right and most are in between.
My most viewed image on Panoramio is "The Famous Tottenham Hotspur Cockerel" - not necessarily one of my best images but popular with Spurs fans who have viewed it over 2,500 times over the last sixteen months. The cockerel and ball are over nine feet tall and have watched over all Tottenham Home games for over a century:

2. This was another unspectacular image taken at White Hart Lane, also viewed over 2,500 times so far. Bill Nicholson Way was named after the Tottenham manger who brought huge success to the Club in the sixties and seventies. The brick building is the Club's historical headquarters and housed the board room and Bill Nicholson's office. The stadium is visible in the background:
3. A view of the Clyde River, NSW, taken from the stern of a pleasure cruiser (1000 hits):
4. An image of a plaque below the statue of the Captain of the Titanic, Commander Edward Smith, who went down with his ship, has been viewed over 800 times. The statue is located in Lichfield, Staffordshire, England. Surprisingly, the image of the statue itself has only had 150 hits:
5. An image of a hotel, West Lodge Park Hotel, Cockfosters, Hertfordhire, England, where I worked part time during my mis-spent youth, washing dishes in 1965 (725 views). Joan and I stayed there in 2009:
6. Next, this image of the Cafe in Oakwood Park, (North London) has attracted nearly 700 hits. I spent a great amount of time in this Park and often bought gob-stoppers and fizzy drinks in the park Cafe and I loved the peculiar architecture. The only thing that has changed is the addition of bars over the windows.
7. This image of an emptying Lake Burrogorang, NSW was taken in 2005 as the drought worsened.
8. Finally, this image of the Anglo-Australian Telescope at the Australian Astronomical Observatory, Siding Springs, NSW has had almost 500 hits:
