Until now my lightning photography technique has been to take continuous 30 second exposures at night, as listed > HERE <, mostly by manual use of a remote button. When one shot finishes, I press the button to begin the next one. The technique provides very little scope for daylight storms and occasionally a good night strike is missed during the delay between shots.
To add a further dimension to my repertoire, I purchased a lightning trigger, which takes images only when it senses a lightning flash. No shots get missed and fewer dud shots are taken - mostly those which consist of a cloud flash with no direct visibility of the bolt itself.
Hopefully this device may result in less strikes lost and more chances of taking daylight shots in future storms.
Here is the trigger:

I bought it through the Ice In Space webshop but you can also go to the manufacturer's own website.
Here are a couple of images I took using the DSLR Lightning Trigger a few days ago:
Frames: 6; Exposure times varied 1 sec to 4 sec; f/1.8 to 2.8; ISO 320 Copyright R. Powell 2018
Single strike 2.5 sec; f/2.2; ISO 320 Copyright R. Powell 2018
As you can see, it works!
