With too many people opposing the question with too many irrelevant and untruthful arguments, the debate has sunk too low for me to participate in very much now.
I have always sought to keep religion out of the Marriage Equality debate but it is quite clear that it is the leaders of established Christian religions who are leading the call for non-equality, despite a majority support for the question amongst their own membership, according to public opinion polls.
Many of these church leaders spend their entire lifetime denigrating, ignoring and excluding gay people (and non-believers).
There are two groups of people who are out of step with public thinking on this - the leadership of the established churches and the National Parliament - and it is apparent that when they lose this unnecessary "survey" they will be leading the charge for Christians to be fully exempted from any form of requirement to comply with Equality laws.
Religion always seeks exemptions from requirements to comply with the law. They seek and obtain special status from the governments which they influence and a free ride.
No matter what spin they put on it, Christianity is dying and Australia is now entering the Post Christian Era, along with many other Western nations.
Except in our Churches of course.
And in the National Parliament.
