Whilst world leaders dither over climate change remediation - setting targets which are too low and too late, the greenhouse gases in Earth's atmosphere continue to rise.
CO2, which in 1980 was around 335 ppm, surpassed 400 ppm in 2016 - a rise of 19.4% in just 36 years.
Similar results can be seen for Methane and Nitrous Oxide, the other principle greenhouse gases.
The worrying thing is that there seems to be no abatement in the upward trend. I find this very troublesome and I am sad, frightened and embarrassed about the uncertain legacy we are leaving for our children and our children's children to deal with.
Today there was a report in The Guardian which stated:
"This (2016), on current trends, will be the hottest year ever measured. The previous record was set in 2015; the one before in 2014. Fifteen of the 16 warmest years have occurred in the 21st century. Each of the past 14 months has beaten the global monthly temperature record. But you can still hear people repeating the old claim, first proposed by fossil fuel lobbyists, that global warming stopped in 1998."
