The glory of the 'heavens' above us are real, their starry splendour is visible to those who look up; but the glory of 'Heaven' is a sad delusion of human minds. This is the personal blog site of an atheist astronomer.
Wise words

16th November, 2013 at The Sydney Entertainment Centre.
I've been a Leonard Cohen fan for a very long time.
Since 1968, when I first heard his music broadcast on BBC Radio in London by John Peel, I knew he was something special. I saw him twice in concert in 1970 - first at a packed Royal Albert Hall in front of 5,000; and then at The Isle of White Music Festival in front of an astonishing 600,000 people!
(One song each from these two concerts appear on the "Live Songs* Album. The Isle of Wight Festival DVD was issued forty years after the event).
Once you become a Cohen fan you never let go; and since then I've waited forty-three years between live performances. It was a long time "Waiting For The Miracle", which I thought would never happen. This concert was a fantastic and emotional experience for me, to once again see a live performance from the man who has been a companion for almost my entire adult life.
Joan certainly enjoyed herself too. The photos tell the story:

Leonard said at the beginning of the concert that we had been geographically and economically disadvantaged by being there! No sir! At seventy-nine years of age this was a smooth, polished performance from an amazing singer/songwriter/poet, well worth the entrance money and two nights accommodation in Sydney.
Thank you, Leonard.
Sincerely,
R. Powell.
