Progressive new restrictions on public tobacco smoking introduced by NSW Premier Barry O'Farrell.
The last time I wrote about smoking second-hand smoke was getting up my nose. I was pretty sick with a chest infection that was not responding to anti-biotics and I had no choice but to walk through a wall of smoke to get to the doctor's surgery.
Someone in authority has been reading my blog! As from 1st Jan, in NSW, there will be new restrictions on smoking in outdoor public places:
- No smoking at swimming pool complexes or near childrens playgrounds;
- No smoking within four metres of a public building;
- No smoking on railway platforms/bus stops/taxi ranks;
- No smoking at sporting events.
This is very, very good news for asthma sufferers, innocent children and any person who dislikes breathing other people's tobacco smoke.
They are welcome measures from the Government of NSW, although I still think smoking should also be banned near doctors surgeries as well.
The rules are bound to upset a few people when they realise they can't have a fag in shopping precincts (if the restrictions are properly enforced) but that's too bad for them.
