Seven weeks have passed since the decision to proceed with the first hip replacement. I have never had to wait so long for surgery before and the long wait, along with the extensive preparations seems to have unsettled me just a bit. I wish it was over.
So many things to do before this procedure!
In addition to everything I listed in Blogs 1 & 2, since then I had to go to the Specialist's office to pay for the operation in advance; I went back to the Cardiologist (based at the hospital) to have a stress test; and back to the hospital again to have pathology tests (blood samples, swabs and urine). I was also sick for a week with laryngitis, which didn't help.
Yesterday Joan and I both had full audiology tests (unrelated to the operation) and today I attended the hospital - yet again - for a two hour "Joint Replacement Surgery Patient Education Programme." This was quite helpful, although some of it was a duplication of all the myriad of literature I have been given about it.
One thing it has told me is that I cannot expect a fast recovery from this operation.
Now I have just one sleep left. I have to be at the hospital at six in the morning.
