Biggest laugh I had in months yesterday: Cardinal Pell's appeal in The Australian for climate change scientists to provide scientific evidence!
George Pell (a Roman Catholic Cleric in Sydney), wrote an article which was published in today's "The Australian" advising his fans to be climate science-deniers. Mr Pell made this statement: "The appeal must be to the evidence. First of all we need adequate scientific explanations as a basis for our economic estimates."
This is an astonishing statement for a Catholic Cleric to make. Catholics decide their core beliefs on faith, regardless of any evidence to the contrary. In demanding scientific evidence for global warming, he conveniently ignores the fact that science denial has ALWAYS been official catholic policy and evidence is surpus to requirements. Yet in the case of 'climate change' he is suddenly - irrationally - demanding the kind of rigorous scientific proof that he will not apply to any of his own theological hypotheses. What breathtaking hypocrisy! Especially when the adequate scientific explanations for climate change are already pretty much done and dusted.
With Mr. Pell orchestrating opposition to climate change science amongst the 25% of the population who said they were Roman catholic at the 2006 census; Alan Jones exerting a heavy influence over his faithfull talk back radio show listeners; and Tony Abbott's lacklustre leadship of a science-denying Liberal Party, what chance is there of majority of the community supporting the honest work of climate change scientists who have worked for decades, gathered climate statistics, worked hard to understand it, analysed it and demonstrated beyond reasonable doubt that human activity is detrimental to our climate?
