Nothing is going to change.
In reponse to world wide condemnation, Mr Ratzinger said in a recent Vatican speech that he does not intend to change anything that might challenge the disgusting culture of child abuse that is rife in his church. So it's business as usual for the priests who meddle with children and it's business as usual for the Catholic hierarchy that is obstructing the course of justice. All they have to do is...... say sorry afterwards and that will make it alright.
The corrupt Catholic culture of pretending to deal with crimes internally, of criminal cover ups, of protection of work colleagues, of not reporting criminal acts to the police, of bribery of sex abuse victims, of obstruction of justice, of procrastination, of abuse of power, of injustice to victims, of saying a few prayers, of granting absolution to the perpetrators, will continue as it has for centuries unless governments begin to crack down on them or their own congregations walk out in disgust.
All the perpetrators have to do is "penance". That's Catholic ethics in action and it stinks.
